a duel element fuse lets you start a load that has a high inrush of current for a very shot time as in a motor. If a duel element fuse was not used in a case such as a motor, as soon as the motor started the fuse would blow.

Why use a dual element fuse over a single element fuse?

Often confused with time delay, dual element is a term describing fuse element construction. A fuse having two current responsive elements in series.

Why does a fuse blow when your oven is in use?

If the fuse is properly sized for the installation and the fuse holder is in good condition.... there is a short circuit, probably in the oven heater element or broiler element, where the element has gone bad. EXTREME CARE must be taken in replacement of the element or other troubleshooting that must be done..DEFER TO A QUALIFIED PERSON !!

Why don't your brake lights come on anymore but your turning signals that use the same bulb still function on your 99 Pontiac Sunfire?

It may be as simple as checking the fuse for the brake lights. Also, check the engine compartment fuse block. Your owner's manual has the specs you need. If the brake and turn signal lights use the same bulb, it has a duel element. One element probably blew before the other. Just replace the bulb. Currently having the same problem with my 98. Yes, the lights are dual element but the brake/turn action share the same element, the park light has it's own element. The answer to this problem I found is located closer to the top of the page titled "Why would the third brake light work but the regular ones don't work on a Pontiac Sunfire. I stumble across this today and it seems to be working,

Why is an insulator required for the body of a fuse?

The wire element of a fuse is ONLY effective if it is connected to each end as the only metallic connection. The insulator is required to hold the wire element, and so that people can install and remove the fuse.

What is meant by Horn Gap Fuse?

horn gap fuse is a protective device which use to protect the equipment from higher voltage.actually horn fuse or horn gap fuse is a thin wire element as compare to load line when a high current drawn in line the wire is melt and line protect.

Can anyone explain the M effect of HBC or HRC fuses?

M effect stands for 'Metcalf' effect after the person who discovered it. It involves the use of a small amount of low-melting point alloy (often solder) fixed to the fuse element (wire or strip). Under low overload conditions the fuse element heats up causing the M-effect alloy to diffuse into the metal of the element, increasing its resistance and hence shortening the time to blow compared to the same element without M-effect. Under high overload conditions the fuse element heats up so quickly that there is no time for diffusion to occur. Surprisingly, fuse designers use this effect as a way of creating a fuse with time-delaycharacteristic, because it allows them to use a thicker wire (or strip) than they would otherwise be able to for a given current rating. It is this thicker material that allows a time-delay fuse to withstand short-duration high- current surges.
