Hi, I also have a similar issue, I initially noticed that the fans were not coming on when the engine reaches high temperatures so I went to Silverton Radiators and made a conversion to install in my water return pipe with a Thermo Switch and rewired the Fan Wiring to it so that the Thermo Switch (VW Switch 88 - 63c) would control the fans. This sorted out the fan issue however the vehicle still overheated I removed my Thermostat to do a test, same thing.
I tested the Radiator by undoing the bolts at the top holding the radiator to let the radiator lean towards the engine and felt the front side of the radiator only to find out that the top and the bottom of the radiator gets warm while the engine is running with the fans switched off but the Middle of the radiator where the fans are does not get warm at all.
Silverton Radiators (South Africa) had this problem repaired for me and the cooling system has been working well eversince. A radiator flush wont do the trick here, the radiator needs to be stripped and cleaned.
It is definitely better to get a new radiator other than stripping and cleaning the radiator because there is always a reason to a clogged radiator and this might happen again in the near future.
Yes It Can.
5 degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Centre) is the spec I found for the fuel injected 1.5l 16v. You can run timing at + or - 1 degree on this 5 degrees (i.e. Timing at 4 degrees or 6 degrees BTDC. i have seen on Mazda forums where guys run 10, 12 & even 14 degrees but I guess this depends on the octane rating of the fuel you use.
the bottle is defective and has a hairline crack! Mazda knows this but wont cover it unless you have a receipt or are in the warrenty period! I have a 1998 Mazda 626 with the same problem!
It should. It will also run hot. It depends on how it fails. If it locks up, the belt may smoke and burn off. If it leaks, it will loose all the coolant and run hot.
1. The Mazda three did not exist in 1995 2. The coolant temperature sensor is probably bad
The Mazda Familia is also known as the Mazda 323. A 1997 Mazda Familia is recommended to use 10 W 30 oil.
the temp sensor seems to be bad
To run, no. To pass emissions, yes.
My guess is that you have the wrong temperature spark plug. All spark plugs are not the same, somerun hotter than others.
No. Mazda Miatas run a non-interference engine.
cold weather, because you get hot when you run
Sounds like the thermostat is not opening and needs to be replaced
