That's because every time you ask a question and add it to a category it appears on two separate line. If you look at the wording you'll see one line say asked, the second added.
They will appear in your contributions. Once you access your contribution, you can filter the page so it only shows the questions you asked.
From your message board click on contributions to the top right and side of that page and all your contribution history will appear.
There are well over 40,000 questions asked on Answers.com per day. It is impossible for all of these to appear on the homepage.
When your question is asked it will appear in the unanswered questions until other questions are asked and it will slowly fall lower in the list until it leaves the list. You do not have to do anything but ask the question to get it in the unanswered questions list.

Some times it does and sometimes it doesn't if there are too many people on and your screen loads after they already asked a question after you.
