Why does 2001 Chevy Malibu keep shutting off while driving after on the road about half an hour then restart after 10 minutes then repeat same process all over again?

how many times you drove the car almost on empty [it only takes once to burn your fuel pump] you need to replace it, GM'S good for it.

that sounds like your starter motor isn't working, which would explain why there is no noise when you try to restart it

Since it is shutting down while it is running that tells me your alternator is not putting out enough current and needs replaced. You will need to charge the battery fully prior to starting after installing the new alternator or you could burn out the new alternator as well. I.King

The most common issue is a fuel filter. It could be a few other things, but the fuel filter is where I would start.
