You need three things to make a engine run. Fuel - make sure there is gas to the fuel rail. No plugged fuel filter, broken fuel line, etc. Air. - make sure the air cleaner is clean enough to allow air through. Fire or spark - are the spark plugs OK - do they fire - do they need replacing Once you are sure of those three, if the timing is right (no broken timing belt or chain) the engine will run.

Sometimes my sons 2001 Grand Am does that. It has to do with the Security System. Turn the key to ACC the Security light will start blinking and will continue to do so for 10 minutes. At that time the Security Light will stay on. At that point you can start you car. This works for him Good Luck.

it doesnt have a distributor cap. it has a coil pack AND...the coil packs are located under the cover on top of the engine.

Get some WD40 and spray all of the ignition wires, coils.
Maybe occassional problems with the fuel pump at start up.
