Why does Answers.com say you'll get an answer in minutes when it takes months?

The message saying questions would be answered in minutes was part of an experiment on the site that only lasted for a few weeks in early 2015. The feature has since been removed. You should no longer receive that message.

Sometimes it does take minutes, but not always.
Sometimes you may not realise it, but your question itself may in fact be the issue why it isn't being answered quickly. Maybe it doesn't have enough information, for example.

Another reason is that the relevant expert who can answer your question might not necessarily be online. You have to bear in mind that there is such a thing as timezones. It might be daytime where you are, but the expert who can answer your question might be asleep on the other side of the world.


In order to get a quicker response, you need to ensure your question:

• Contains enough information for an accurate answer ("when did the civil war end" is not a good question. But "When did the American civil war end" is)
  
• Is spelt properly and doesn't contain "text talk"
  
• Is categorised in the correct category.

You can also increase the chance of an answer by clicking the social network buttons next to your question to share it on social networks. If your question is interesting or fun, you could even try sharing it in the "Fun Questions" section of our community forum (you need to be a registered member to access it), where it can get more possible exposure.

Aside from all the above, answering questions is voluntary. Contributors sometimes have more important things to focus on such as education, family and employment. We're only human.
