This is because Bangladesh is in the flood plain of three rivers (one of them is the Ganges the longest running river in the world) A flood plain is when the river is backed up and dirt and mud pile up making a piece of land in this case Bangladesh-this is called a delta. :D

The country of Bangladesh is almost entirely river delta. The subcontinent of India receives the highest rainfalls in the entire world during the season termed the monsoon. The rainfall has to go someplace, usually it goes down the river. Therefore the delta floods.

Flooding is common in Bangladesh because:

1. Bangladesh is situated at the tip of an arrow head. If you look on a map you will see that the sea is leading straight towards it.

2. Bangladesh has very flat ground. Virtually all of the land is at sea level, and so the water from annual heavy rainfall has nowhere to drain to. Also, when the rainfall occurs on surrounding upland areas, the water can't all be infiltrated, meaning there is a lot of surface runoff (leads to rapid filling of the rivers).

3. There are lots of rivers in Bangladesh.

Also there is a lot of deforestation going on in Bangladesh because of the growing population in Nepal, and Tibet. (neighbouring countries.) And a lot of the time storms called cyclones hit Bangladesh causing it to flood. these cyclone storms happen quite often.

4. Bangladesh is also a flood plain for three very large rivers. One being the river ganges which is one of the fastest flowing rivers.

The advantages of flooding in Bangladesh is that there will be less water shortages in the area and there will be more water to use.

Bangladesh is vulnerable to natural disaster, because most of the country is only a few feet above sea level. Bangladesh has seen epic floods in its past.
