She is the vampire girl that made the Salvatore brothers into vampires. Both Damon and Stefan were in love with her. Every one thought she was captured under a church but she managed to make a deal with a Lockwood so she wouldn't be in the tomb.

Elena still can't decide between Stephen and Damon. Stephen is trustworthy and caring and sweet, plus he doesn't drink human blood. Damon is mean and daring but he has tried to be nice Elena, but sadly he drinks human blood. In the next few episodes, Elena finds herself trying to decide who is best for her. She tries to get together with Damon because Stephen has left her and she wants him to be jealous, but Damon is trying so hard not to kill Elena.

What happened in The Vampire Diaries season finale?
In Season 1 finale, John Gilbert trigered the Gilbert device to round up all of the tomb vampires at the founders party/parade. The device made all of the vampires fall to the ground and then they were taken into a room where they would be left to burn. Damon is caught (as well as Tyler's dad who turns out to be a wolf) but Bonnie puts the fire down while Stefan goes in and saves him. End of the parade, you see Damon and 'Elena' outside the Gilbert' residence while they are kissing. The next scene, you see Elena coming up to the door and swearing that someone had taken her clothes and other stuff. Meanwhile, the other 'Elena who kissed Damon' is in the kitchen, tries to kill John and you realise she's Katherine. It ends when the real Elena walks into the house and hears something... Duh duh duh... (evil music...) Season 2: Stefan trades himself over to Klaus in return for Klaus' blood. He orders Katherine to give Damon the blood since it will heal Damon's werewolf bite, therefore letting her out of the house. Surprisingly though, she gives it to him and flees. Earlier, Jeremy was shot and while Bonnie was healing him, the witches whispered to her that there would be consequences but she doesnt listen. The last scene, Jeremy wakes up and walks downstairs. Vicki Bennet calls his name, and then Anna does. So we're guessing that the consequences are that he can now see dead people or vampires. P.S. Klaus is making Stefan drink heaps and heaps of human blood and making him com with Klaus.

He started to drink it because Damon got bitten by a werwolf. And to cure a werwolf bite u need klus's blood! So klus said he would give Stefan the blood if stefan did what he wanted him to do! So klus wanted him to start drinking blood! But that's for season 2! In season 1 he had to drink blood to bulid his strength! :)
What is happening in Vampire Diaries series?
The only thing that is taken from the books is the names of the characters, although their appearances are quite different and Aunt Judith, Elena's father's sister, is now Aunt Jenna, her mother's sister. The town's name, Fell's Church, is now Mystic Falls and Robert E Lee High is now Mystic Falls High. The plotline of the TV show is very different to that of the books. In the books Stefan and Damon were alive in Renaissance Italy and in the TV they were changed in 1864 and lived in Mystic Falls. Damon could also shapeshift into a crow but doesn't in the show. Vicki and Matt are unrelated in the books but are brother and sister in the show. Elena isn't an ice queen like in the books and has a 15 year old brother named Jeremy, unlike in the books where she has a 4 year old sister called Margaret. In the show their parents died in a car crash four months prior to the pilot episode. In the TV show, Stefan says he shouldn't have returned to Mystic Falls but had to know her (Elena). It's later revealed that he keeps a photo of a girl named Katherine, who he loved long ago. She is the spitting image of Elena. His older brother Damon returns after a series of murders shocks the town and promises to make his younger brother's life a misery. It is soon revealed that Damon is the murderer. Damon starts a relationship with Caroline but is primarily using her as a snack and for his own personal gain. He later murders Mr. Tanner and then Zach, who is a descendent of the brothers. Bonnie also discovers that she is a witch and obtains a necklace that once belonged to Katherine. Elena eventually works out Stefan's past life and confronts him, but initially frightened she runs off. They meet in town and he explains everything. After Damon escapes his dungeon in the Salvatore Boarding House he goes on the rampage in the Mystic Falls Cemetary and kills Vicki's stoner friends. He believes she's also dead but when he sees signs of life he brings her home with him and as he is unable to go outside during the day without his ring, he's housebound. Bored, he decides to rouse Vicki and they seem to get on very well together, even feeding her more of his blood, until he decides to help her with her insecurity issues by snapping her neck, triggering the start of her transformation. News reporter Logan Fell and Sheriff Forbes (Caroline's mum) go on the hunt for vampires using the Gilbert pocketwatch as a compass. Logan comes across Vicki and Stefan and shoots Stefan and almost stakes him, when Damon attacks him and kills him. Vicki feeds on him and is changed into a vampire. Following this, the brothers attempt to help Vicki adjust to her new life but she runs off after Damon demonstrates his superspeed to her. Later, the students celebrate Hallowe'en in the school and Vicki and Jeremy go off alone where her vampire instincts kick in. She attempts to attack Jeremy and Elena but is staked by Stefan. Logan returns at the end of Episode 8 and it's revealed he's a vampire. He attacks Damon and is later staked by Alaric Saltzman. In Episode 10, Stefan and Elena finally declare their love for one another by sleeping together. When he goes to get a drink, Elena finds the picture of Katherine and runs off. Her car ends up crashing while trying to avoid hitting a figure, who she runs into. The mystery figure, later revealed to be Noah, disappears and Elena is saved by Damon. They head to Georgia together and get along very well. They go to a bar and meet an old flame of Damon's, Bree, who was friends with Stefan's BFF, Lexi, who Damon staked (Episode 8). She notifies Lee, Lexi's boyfriend, who kidnaps Elena and attacks Damon, dousing him in gasoline. Elena pleads with him to stop. When they get back to Mystic Falls, Stefan tells Elena that the first time they met was May 23, 2009 and that he was the one who rescued her from the car crash that killed her parents. He also revealed that she was adopted. Jeremy has to do a history paper for extra credit (given by the new history teacher Alaric Saltzman). He meets a girl named Anna who knows a lot about vampires. At a 50s themed school dance, Elena is protected by Stefan and Damon, but Noah finds her and attacks. He's staked by Stefan but also reveals more about the Gilbert journal and a witfches cookbook. Stefan, Damon and Elena team up together to locate the cookbook but Stefan lies to Damon, saying he'll help him get Katherine out of the tomb. Damon soon realises it's a lie and forces Elena to drink his blood. Elena is kidnapped by Anna and is held hostage, along with Bonnie. Stefan eventually resues them and Grams decides to help open the tomb. Elena visits Damon and he admits he never compelled her while they were in Georgia as they were having fun together. Once inside the tomb, Katherine is not in it and Damon is angry. Bonnie and Grams cast a spell to seal Damon and Stefan in the tomb but it's faulty, so they can still get out. Seeing Damon upset, Elena hugs him. When Pearl and Anna return to the motel room, an angry Damon attacks Pearl before Anna says she saw Katherine in 1983 and says she never loved Damon.
