I think its just to make it simpler. If they had all the frets an atual guitar had i think people would lose interest. Guitar Hero games and Guitars are supposed to be fun to play if there were more frets i think people would lose interest because instead of playing they would be learning

Yes- all Guitar Hero guitars for a specific console are compatible with all other Guitar Hero games for the same console.
Yes, all Guitar Hero guitars are compatible with every guitar hero.
Guitar Hero 2 guitars are the same as the Guitar Hero 1 guitars, so they work with guitar hero 1 and 2. If they are for the same system as Guitar Hero 3, then they will work. But that would only be with the PS2 and Xbox.
Well, that depends on which game it is. Guitar Hero I and II can only use two guitars. Guitar Hero 3 can use two guitars, but Guitar Hero: World Tour can use a whole band set of two guitars, a microphone and a drum set. Though it is rumored you can use up to 3 guitars in Guitar Hero 5. Even still, the majority of these games limit it to two guitars.
We have been able to use all our guitars on GH5 which is aerosmith, world tour, and legends of rock guitars. Had no problems with any of em . Hope that helps... Marcie
