HINDUISM AND BASIC FORCES OF MAN:

Hindus worship the basic forces within them. Therefore, according to Hinduism 'I" and the supreme Hindu god are one and the same. (Aham Brahmasmi / I am the supreme god - Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 1.4.10).

BRAHMAN - THE SUPREME HINDU GOD:

In Hinduism Brahman is the supreme god. It is a combination of all seven forces. ( Rig Veda - 1.10.90 -15/ Manu Smriti - 1.19, 1.20).However, unlike gods of other monotheistic religions, it is the god of people leading an ideal life, If we can make our life ideal with all our might for some time, then Brahman would take command and make our life effortless and eternally ideal. However, if our life is chaotic Brahman can only act like a compass and just show us in which direction we must proceed.

THE SEVEN BASIC HINDU GODS:

Brahman is made of seven Hindu gods; three pairs of antagonistic gods on either side of the neutral, central, default Hindu god Vishnu.

Ordinary Hindus select one of these.

In a definite order, these gods are,

1. Indra - god of day dreaming

2. Shakti - god of illusion

3. Brahma - god of creativity

4. Vishnu - god of stabilization

5. Shiva - god of determination

6. Shani - god of status increase

7. Yaman - god of determination

Hinduism doesn't have a code of conduct and the nature of the goditselfis the code of conduct.

SELECTION OF HINDU GOD:

1. The default Hindu god is Vishnu who is simple to worship, reliable and full of features.

2. For entertainers the god of choice must be Indra. Associated with heaven and rarely worshipped, Indra can trap us in a dream world.

3. For villagers the choice must be Shakti because during famine they have to live in an illusory world. They can't live in a dream world because they should keep looking for opportunities in the real world.

4. For materialistic city dwellers, the choice is either Vishnu or shiva

5. Shani is more powerful than Shiva but more difficult to appease and thus a second line god, meant for people in great difficulties, who are ready to take the risk.

5. Yama, the god of compulsion / authority is considered as too dangerous and therefore, like Indra, is supposed to play a role after our death only. However, since he is the most powerful Hindu god his, features are added to other gods.

THE INCARNATIONS OF VISHNU:

Since Vishnu is a very complicated god, some Hindus worship just a part of the Sinusoidal (wave like) Vishnu force. Thus, Krishna symbolizes the positive attitude of Vishnu force and Rama, the negative attitude.

THE GODDESSES AND CHILDREN OF GODS:

The hindu gods are facilitating or retarding forces and thus change our life. When we fail we must be able to discard the changes that the failure caused. The goddess act similar to system restore states of computer.

The children of gods are parts of the force which the god symbolizes. Ganesha and Subramanya are examples

THE SECONDARY HINDU GODS:

Selection of a Hindu god needs a complete idea of the nature of that god and also of the situation in which we are going to use it. This is a practically impossible task. Thus, features of several gods are combined to make a god for a locality.

THE INFINITE HINDU GODS:

According to Hinduism there are 330 million Hindu gods. The 330 million refers to the supposed population of the world of that time. This means that every Hindu can have a god specifically designed for him.

Therefore, though apparently every Hindu worships a different god, actually each of them would be worshipping different parts of the supreme Hindu god, Brahman.

Why do Indians have lots of gods?

1. Hinduism is not only in India but also in Nepal. Well, throught the ancient history, many gods were from Nepal too. Like Sita fom Ramayan. And the Pashupatinath temple. Hinduism has got lots of gods because the many gods were born in India and Nepal. 2.Because Hindu gods did many incarnations in order to save the earth from demons. Like Lord vishnu re incarnated as Buddha, ram,Krishna and many more gods. so that's the reason why Hinduism has many gods because a single god incarnated many times. :)

What are some of the characteristics of the christian god like compared to gods of other religions?

the gods of other religions are different. ppl say there are many gods. but there is only 1 God. that is the Christian God. The Christian God is just, holy, everlasting, loving, compassionite, all knowing, and is the sustainer and creater of all life. Buddism really has no God - its about finding the truth within you as reality is an illusion. Hinduism has the God of Brahman which has thousands and thousands of manifestations. Brahman is thought of to be a kind of energy which is existing throughout the world therefore Hindus blieve everything is Holy. (Judaism, Islam and Christianity worship the same God)

Is Hinduism polythestic?

Hinduism is polytheistic. It has three main deities, Brahma (the creator) Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer) but there are many, many more.Hinduism is holistic:Hinduism is a holistic religion. In it there is a smooth transition from Monotheism to Polytheism to Atheism.Polytheistic Hinduism:Hinduism is considered as a religion with 330 million gods, which means a custom made god for every Hindu, There are seven basic Hindu gods viz. Indra, Shakti, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Shani and Yama, from which all other gods and goddesses are derived. The central three gods are known together as Trimurti. This makes Hinduism look polytheistic, without any doubt.Monotheistic Hinduism and Brahman:1. Brahman, the supreme Hindu god, is the equivalent of gods of monotheistic religions. In Hinduism, by god, we mean Brahman because it is the only omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient Hindu god.2. Even if a Hindu believes that there are 330 million Hindu gods, Brahman is still his ideal. Every Hindu wishes to attain Moksha and become one with Brahman.3. If we blend all the seven basic Hindu gods the result would be Brahman. It is for this reason that Hindus believe that all gods spring from Brahman. As long as Brahman, the eternal god, exists the other Hindu gods can't be considered as distinct gods. Thus, even though Hinduism has many gods it can't be considered as a Polytheistic religion. Therefore, Hinduism is a holistic religion and should never be considered as Monotheistic, Polytheistic or Atheistic.

Do Hindus believe in 3 or 1 gods?

In Hinduism, it is believed that 'Brahman' is the one supreme, universal Spirit that is the origin and support of the phenomenal universe. It is said that Hindus believe there are 33 million deities. In the Vedas, Thirty-three gods are listed. This is followed by the Sanskrit word 'Koti', which is used for "class" but can also be used for a number equal to 10 million. According to one view, some scholars misinterpreted the word 'Koti' - which is meant to mean "class", claiming that there are 33 million gods within Hinduism. Another view contends that 33 million is a figure symbolizing infinity, indicating infinite forms of God.

When did Hinduism first start?

HinduismHinduism started in Inida Hinduism is known as one of the prehistoric religions because its practice can be traced back to before recorded history. Evidence of the practice of Hinduism has been dated back before 5000 BC.Beginning of Hinduism:1. The four modes of time of Hinduism:Hinduism has four classes of people and each of them use a different mode of time.1. Brahmanas use eternal mode2. Kshatriyas use natural or semi permanent mode3. Vaishyas use conditional mode4. Shudras use Temporary modeThus, according to Brahmanas Hinduism is an eternal religion. According to Shudras it is a temporary religion. Thus, the age of Hinduism can never be determined.2. Hinduism and Atheism:Adding to the confusion is the fact that Hinduism is indistinguishable and inseparable from Atheism. Since Atheism is older than any religion Hinduism too would appear to begin at the dawn of civilization.3. The place of origin of Hinduism:The Hinduism of Brahmanas is universal and that of the Shudras local. This makes the place of origin also very confusing. Without knowing where it started first it would be extremely difficult to say when it started. Thus, the estimation of the age of Hinduism is a futile exercise. However, the perfection and maturity of Hinduism indicate that it is undoubtedly the oldest religion.

Is Hinduism polytheism or monotheism?

Polytheism. Hinduism is a religion with thousands of deities.Answer:Although often sited as a polytheistic religion the Hindu pantheon of gods only represents aspects of the supreme Brahman, Avatars of the supreme being, or significantly powerful entities known as Devas. In this way it is parallel to monotheistic Christianity religion with one god with several aspects, and a pantheon of lesser beings (devils, demons, saints, 6 levels of angels, etc.) who are significantly powerfulBoth can be either monotheistic or pantheistic on this basis.
