Japan has typhoons due to the warm ocean current known as the Kuroshio. It runs right beside Japan on the eastern side on the main islands. That is why Japan is very warm even though it is up north.

There is also a warm ocean current on the western side of Japan called the Tsushima current which delivers warm heat into south and some parts of North Korea.

If you look at a map of Japan, you will see that there is lots of sea around it. Well, around August-November time, the sea is at it's warmest. If a lightning bolt (or something with a similar amount of energy) hits the sea, the sea will heat up, causing a small cloud to occur. The heat from the water vapour inside the cloud heats more water, until a large, low cloud forms. Winds (from the east) blow this cloud, causing it to spin. The cloud (now typhoon) continues to be pushed by the winds from the east, so it moves west, towards Japan and surrounding countries. Florida and surrounding states get hit by hurricanes for the same reason.

Japan doesn't get avalanches.- True but a typhoon is not an avalanche.

If they do, then........

They evacuate?
