pcv ( positive crancase ventilation ) system has issues. when it becomes plugged, crancase pressure builds, focing oil back into the air filter, which eventually close the idle, and cold start circuits. there is a chrsyler service bulletin for the PCV components - upgraded parts cost about $35 throttle body assembly ( cold start, idle control, and main throttle plate) can be cleaned with any commercially available throttle & intake cleaner. ( Gunk, Winns, etc)

It actually doesn't have an smell!! It has a strange look though.
leaking injector or bad o2 sensor
No.
could be a gasket that has finally gaveway and the smell of oil is the oil burning on the engine.
Normally, the light on means the oxygen sensor (s) need replacing. As for the smell, be more specific.
Is it a fish smell or a rotten egg smell ? FISH SMELL COULD BE A BAD HEATER CORE, THIS WOULD CAUSE YOU NOT TO HAVE HEAT IN THE CAR , BUT IT MIGHT NOT CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON UNLESS MAYBE CAR IS LOW ON COOLANT. ( THERE MIGHT BE A LOW COOLANT SENSOR TO TRIGGER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) ROTTEN EGG SMELL COULD BE A CLOGGED CATALYTIC CONVERTER , WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE OXYGEN SENSOR TO TRIGGER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT IT WOULDN'T CAUSE THE LOSS OF HEAT.
sounds like a bad catalytic convertor
Gas leak. Very dangerous situation. Stop driving this car until you find the leak.
One thing could be an over used belt or a leak of antifreeze
Change the engine oil soon? Change the transmission oil lately? Run over a bottle of soap?
How can you smell gas when I start MY 97 jimmy - most strange!.
