Today Microsoft produces a range of software for Apple's Macintosh computers and Apple produces software for computers running Microsoft's Windows operating system. There has been a friendly rivalry between the two companies for many years. In their early days Microsoft was employed by Apple to produce software for them. This relationship evolved and Microsoft licensed some aspects of the Macintosh operating system from Apple to use in their own version which they called Windows.
