Huck staged his own death by spreading pig's blood around the cabin and making it look like a robbery-murder scene. He found an old saw blade in the cabin and cut out a hole for him to sneak through when pap was gone. One day when pap left, he finished cutting through the hole and got out. He emptied the cabin of all supplies worth anything, and then staged his own murder so that nobody would go looking for him. He did this by axing the door of the cabin and using the blood from a pig he killed to make it look like he had been killed. He then used a sack of heavy rocks to make it look like a body had been dragged to the river and, lastly, he made a trail of corn meal to a lake so that people would search for the murderers by following the cornmeal trail instead of searching the river (where he was going to be).
