Why did Shakespeare never reveal the cause of the feud in Romeo and Juliet?

Well Shakespeare leaves most of his work up to interpretation. Some lines do not depict the character's attitudes/personality, and it is left up to the director of the performance to decide how the roles will be carried out. All we need to know is that they were in a civil brawl.

∙ 9y agoWilliam Shakespeare does not disclose the cause of the family feud because the focus is meant to be on Romeo and Juliet. Also by not disclosing the cause of the feud, the reader does not have a timeline and it is assumed that it is a multi-generational feud.
