1) Why is this question in the "Star Wars Movies" category?
2) It's because there has to be some sort of characteristic that sets Spock apart from humans.
All members of the Vulcan species, and their sister species, the Romulans, have pointed ears. There is no functional purpose for the pointed ears, it is just a genetic trait.
Mr. Spock's ears are pointed, because he is a Vulcan. All Vulcans have pointed ears.
The Vulcan species has distinctly pointed ears. So Spock, who is half-Vulcan, has this part of the Vulcan physiology.
Mr. Spock was a Vulcan, and all Vulcans were depicted with pointed ears. It was part of their normal appearance.
Genetics .
Vulcans come from the planet Vulcan.
Vulcans are a species first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series. I don't know how you can be a Star Trek fan without knowing what Vulcans look like, but I might as well lend my expertise. Vulcans are characterized by pointed ears, a blank expression, and (my own personal observation) long fingers. They also age to be quite old. While I have no factual basis for this statement, Ambassador Spock, who must have been about 28 in TOS, lived until sometime after Star Trek: Voyager. In Voyager's 6th season Lieutenant Commander Tuvok, who was 28 in the time of Excelsior-class starships, reached his 100th birthday. If you think you have met a Vulcan on the street and he has his ears covered, listen for the word "logical" or "illogical". They say it so often, it's not even funny. Unlike their Romulan cousins, the Vulcans pursued peace, knowledge, and logic. They have green blood. Other characteristics can be found by looking up "Vulcans" on Memory Alpha.
Definitely Vulcans. Vulcans are significantly stronger than Klingons. Vulcans are stronger in the mind, klingons are stronger in the heart
No where in Star Trek does anyone say that Vulcans kiss with their fingers; touching with two fingers is the most contact they will allow themselves to have in public.
Nothing they aren't real
the vulcans hade the strange ears
There are approximately 180 named characters who have pointed ears (counting Vulcans, Romulans, and Mintakans, which are the only species that I know of who have pointed ears). Some better-known ones are: Vulcans: Spock T'Pol Serek Surak Tuvok Saavik Valeris Sybok Vorik T'Pring Romulans: Tomalok Donatra Sela Jarok Mintakans: Nuria Liko More can be found at memory-alpha.org

In Star Trek TOS, Mr. Spock is the only main cast member who is not human. He is a Vulcan, and Vulcans have pointed ears. There have been other characters on the show with pointed ears, but none of them were main or regular characters.
