The total cost of changing over to the higher voltage would be too much for small industrial factories to handle. It would mean major equipment changes to the power utility companies for different Transformers. It all about the money. This is the same reason that the US did not go over to the metric system, the cost of change was too much of a burden on the economy.

How do 480 volt control circuits work?

Some control circuits remain at line voltage but most use a reduced voltage of 120 volts. This is acquired by the use of a control transformer 480 primary to 120 volts secondary.

Is a 300 volt wire good to connect a range?

The 300 volt insulation rating on wire is the maximum amount of voltage that can be applied to that wire. If your range falls within that range then it is safe to use. Some commercial ranges use 480 and 575 volts. For theses types of ranges the 300 volt wire will not do, it will have to be wire with a conductor whose insulation rating is 600 volts or greater.

What is the volt drop on a cable 912 meters 480 volts and load of 54 amps?

The volt drop on a cable 912 meters 480 volts and load of 54 amps is 5% if you use 2/0 AWG wire and 2.4% if you use 300MCM wire. See Related Links below

I have a coolant motor with 420 volts in Lathe Machine but the supply voltage will be 480 volts. Can 420 volts 50Hz coolant motor can use in 480 volts 60Hz?

No, you'll burn your lathe motor up immediately. (it might last 30 seconds before it literally smokes.) You'll need to buy and install a "buck-boost" type transformer to drop the voltage from 480 to 420V. Best to have a qualified commercial electrician wire it up if you value your lathe.

Can you change 30 amp to 60 amp?

Yes, if you use a 240 volt to 480 volt step up 15 KVA transformer. This will give you 30 amps usable at 480 volts.

Holophane ballast re400mh48hrw how do i wire them and are they 120 or 220?

On your model number the figures after 400MH are the voltages for that ballast. A 40 represents 240 volts, 12 represents 120 volts and yours 48 represents 480 volts. Looks like this is a industrial fixture and not meant for residential use.

How do you factor 575 into a product of primes?

Use a factor tree. 575 115,5 23,5,5 5 x 5 x 23 = 575

How do you wire a roman weld transformer 120 kva 1 phase 440 volt from a 3 phase 480 delta-wye connection?

In a 480 volt wye connection you obtain two voltages, 277/480 volts. Any leg to grounded wye point will give you 277 volts. Between any of the legs to each other you will receive 480 volts. Any two legs of a three phase system is classified as single phase supply. From a 480 volt central distribution panel install a two pole breaker sized to the amperage shown on the welding machine. Be sure to use the input current and not the output current to find the correct feeder for the unit.

How many amps does a 3 phase 20 hp motor use?

30 HP at 480 (3 Phase) - 746 multiplied by 30 = 22380 22380 divided by 480 (3 Phase) = 46.5 46.5 divided by 1.73 = 29.5AMPS Motor speed and efficiency may change the actual result. Always refer to the name plate data

What is the voltage of a 3 phase 4 wire 277 volt lighting circuit?

The voltage of 277 volts is the wye of a three phase 480 volt system. Just as the voltage of 347 is the wye voltage of a three phase 600 volt system. To obtain these voltages for any three phase system, take the three phase voltage and divide it by 1.73. 480/1.73 = 277 volts, 600/1.73 = 347 volts.

Is there a 440 voltage rating?

There was a 440 Volt Rating. Voltage ratings of the past gave way to higher levels to allow larger power dissipation from the same wire size. In home use 110 Volts gave way to 115 Volts and that gave way to the 120 Volts of current use. Higher voltages also increased in turn as 110V associated with 220 and 440 Volts, became 115V associated with 230 and 460 Volts, and today we have 120V associated with 240 and 480 Volts.
