WikiAnswers does not have private messaging because it is not meant to be a social networking site. Since it is meant for questions and answers, anything pertaining to that should be able to be done publicly on the message boards. email services can be used to communicate privately.

ChaCha requires a cell phone and operates through text messaging. WikiAnswers has no requirement other than an internet connection. ChaCha has paid employees who answer questions. WikiAnswers has a community of people who volunteer their time and expertise. ChaCha costs money to ask questions (text messaging rate, at least.) WikiAnswers is completely free. ChaCha questions are private, only seen by you and the operator who answers them. WikiAnswers questions and answers are public, so that anyone can see them and provide answers.
