The first character the VIN number identifies the country from which the vehicle was manufactured. Second VIN digit specifies the manufacturer. The third VIN digit indicates the vehicle type or manufacturing division. The fourth through eighth VIN digit reveals the vehicle features such as body style, engine type, model, series, etc. The ninth VIN digit is a VIN accuracy check digit, verifying the previous VIN numbers. You will have to take it to a factory dealer and have them run it for you. There is no info on decoding a 9 digit, only the 17 digit vin number's (1983 or later).
It depends on what the 7th digit in your vin number is. If it is a "R" then your weight is about 4,750lbs. If the digit is a "S" then your weight is 4,500lbs. Or if your 7th digit is a "T" then your weight will be 3,750lbs. I got this information off of http://www.jeep-l.net/info_jeep/jeep_vin.htm
If that Buick has the 17 digit vin, the 8th digit would be the engine code.
