It sits straight down on the engine and is attached with two bolts. ( Note: the front of the valve cover is next to the upper engine mount)

You have a burnt valve or cracked head. I had 1996 Saturn with the same problem. It was a burnt valve. The garage wants a arm and leg to do the work. I got help and did it all, even changed timing chain for $200.00.

Look for the throttle butterfly valve; on the end of the butterfly valve shaft should be a little sensor with wires connected; that's the throttle position sensor.
