It could be a couple of things. I would check and make sure the oil is filled. Some engines have low oil shutdown that will shut it down if the oil is too low. Make sure there is no water in the gas too. A little water could stall the engine. Check the spark plug and spark plug wire. A short or misfire may be enough to shut it down. Beyond that, I recommend a good repair shop.

A number of reasons: Loose electrical connection, bad coil, bad coil wire or bad plug. Try a new plug, it will be the cheapest fix. It could be a problem with the fuel delivery system, but I doubt it-if it starts right up, after cooling off. It could be overheating and not enough value clearance. Clean the grass and dirt off, around the cylinder and flywheel. That's cheaper than a value job.
Briggs and Stratton 8hp new runs only few minutes and then quits. then when it cools down you can restart and run again for few minutes . What causes this?
one reason for this is the air inlet on the petrol cap is blocked or too small causing a vacuum in the petrol tank and starving the motor.
