It depends on when and why they are nipping. My chi will nip if she's sitting in my lap and you come near me, or if she's in my arms and you come near me. I know that my chi is possessive of me, so when people come over I try to keep her out of my lap if possible, that takes away the behavior and makes her more likely to be comfortable with guests around.
