The pressure inside the balloon is much higher than ambient air pressure and the transition is sudden, when the rubber breaks. This causes a shock wave to travel outwards compressing the surrounding air and making a single crack! The change is approximately adiabatic.

A2 The popping sound is made partly by the tearing of the latex, and partly by the rapid deflation. If you place a strip of cellulose tape on the inflated balloon, and prick it through the tape, the balloon will deflate gradually.

Why do balloon produces blasting sound when it explode with the help of needle?

Ever heard of a jet breaking the sound barrier (traveling faster than sound) and causing a sonic boom? Simply put a balloon popping creates a small sonic boom. You take an inflated balloon and make a hole in the latex, the energy released by the balloon in form of air, or gas, from inside the balloon expands the whole in the latex faster than the speed of sound. It is the hole expanding faster than the speed of sound in the air which breaks the sound barrier causing a sonic boom. Do you have idea what the first man made object was that could break the sound barrier? A whip. The sound you hear when the whip cracks is a sonic boom. Balloons weren't invented until 1824. We may not know when whips were invented, but it was definately before balloons.

Why does a balloon blast when too much air is blown into it?

How does a balloon not pop when you put a skew stick through it?

Prepare the balloon by placing scotch tape on opposite sides. You can push the skewer through without it popping but you need to pop the balloon soon after pulling the skewer out because it will loose air. You can make that part of the act--to demonstrate that it is a real balloon and to "hide the evidence".

How do you make a dog stop being scared by a balloon?

It really depends if it is the popping of the balloon or sight of the balloon. If it is the popping, then you can train the dog to tolerate that sound (i.e, build up with louder and louder noises and then introduce the popping and everyday pop a balloon near the dog and it should start tolerating it.) If it is the sight then the same rule applies. Keep showing the balloon to the dog and it should begin to tolerate it. If that doesn't work, show it things that look like a balloon, leading to the balloon itself. Hope this helps!

Do water lilies sometimes make popping sounds?

According to Dr. Eric Dibble, the popping sound you hear isn't actually coming from the water lilies. The sound is produced by fish, often sunfish, feeding off the lilies. The suction action of their mouths cause popping noise.
