The car doesn't use any fuel to shut it off, while cranking it only uses the same amount of fuel as it would while at idle.
A 1994 Honda Accord can shut off for a number of reasons. The most common are lack of fuel or air. If there is a vacuum leak the car will idle erratically and shut off. When a car runs to lean it may not be able to hold an idle.

Check the idle air control valve. When the valve malfunctions the car will not be able to hold a stable idle. Make sure the wiring is not charred or frayed.
Try cleaning or replacing the Idle air control sensor.
