A cat has 32 muscles in its ear (humans only have 6). Each ear can move independantly of the other. Cats also hear better than both humans and dogs. So cats make a better first alert warning.
Cat's have really sensitive hearing, and part of it is because all those muscles help them swivel their ear in the direction of the sound.
