if it had the full 3 part clutch fitted (friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing) then it could be an oil leak from the crank rear main seal ( the seal encircling the crankshaft behind the flywheel) when oil leaks into the bellhousing centrifugal force throws the oil around the bellhousing often finding its way onto the friction plate causing a grip and slip feeling (shudder), alternatively it could be a fault with the ignition electrics breaking down under load ( such as heavy accelaration or hill start) look at the spark plugs, ignition leads incl coil lead or the coil itself.

How do you know if you need a new clutch if the gears change all right and the clutch doesnt slip but you have loss of speed when you change into third gear or go uphill?

If the revs decrease as the speed decreases (in 3rd & uphill) then its not slipping, you don't need a new clutch, but if you are in any gear and the revs are increasing while the speed is decreasing, then the clutch is slipping.

How do you know if your clutch is going out?

You will smell it burning and your engine will slip as you pull away in first gear and while going uphill.

Why does your car shake vigorously when you accelerate mostly going uphill?

Hi! I am no mechanic, but will try to offer a few explanations. It is very possible that your clutch has worn out. The clutch essentially consists of two plates which contact when your foot is off the clutch pedal ( or when you are not changing gear in an automatic). The stress of going uphill could be causing the two plates to slip against each other before grabbing again, causing the car to shudder as power is abrubtly applied to the wheels in a staccato way. There may be a smell of burning too. Alternatively, perhaps the engine may not be running on all cylinders, which will result in a clunky sound, or the timing may be out, which will result in what is called pinking. (see the wikipedia site). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_knocking Hope this helps.

What gear do you use in a moving truck going uphill?

not overdrive... it depends how fast ur going

When going down the highway if i start up a incline i get a chatter?

Check and check.Going uphill causes an increased engine workload, try downshifting your gears. it it doesn't work, have your clutch checked.
