A peacock, Pavo Cristatus, has multicolored feathers so he can attract and mate with as many peahens as possible.
The bright plumage draws attention to the male; showing off his vibrant feathers is a sign of health. His unnaturally large and disproportionate tail, which would otherwise hinder an animal's survival, is proof of his successful survivability; this is known as Handicap Theory. The loud peafowl call that echoes through the woods is a symbol of his dominance and vigor. His heavy tail-waiving and dancing is a sign of strength.
The entire display has the peahens swooning, or scientifically speaking 'sexually selecting' the male, which in turn ensures the production of future offspring.
It is from a gene from their parents, if you look closely on the sides of some of the peacocks there may be two white feathers which represent the white gene in the peacocks. Most do not have the white feathers but some do.

The purpose of the more dull and speckled coloration in peahens (females) and pea-chicks is to camouflage them from predators. Peachicks have camouflage coloring of speckled browns and white. Peahens are less bright than the males with more camouflaged coloring of brown, bronze, green, grey, black and white.
The colors in the peacocks (males) are for attracting females with beautiful displays of their tail feathers and to intimidate rival males. Most peacocks have beautiful iridescent feathers that change color as the light reflects from the feathers. The colors range from bronze to green to blue and variations of the blue/green colors in between, sometimes with the right light even showing colors with the bronzes that look purplish. These male peafowl also have coloration on the tips of their tail feathers that resemble large eyes.
The male peacock has brightly coloured feathers to attract females and to mate. That is why you'll see that females are quite a dull brown colour, and i dont think they have feathers the same as the males either.
Well how I know it, they spread their feathers to find a peahen to mate with.
Im looking for the same answer but what i think is that they have the bright tails to attract the females maybe, this is happens through natural selection. :)

possibly, blue and green because male peacocks spread their feathers to attract peahens
The peacock molts his tail feathers every year after mating season.
