To show of his wingspan to the ladies .
Many different species have reproductives that swarm during mating season.
They're termites during mating season.
because the queen ant eats his head and wings after mating i think
to show how tough they are to attract ladies
Male Peococks fan out their wings as a mating ritual. Thier beautiful feathers are to impress the female and "win her over."
their wings dont have much to do with laying eggs. but only chickens lay eggs without mating
Butterflies use their wings for camouflage, mimicry, mating, and for soaking up the heat.
a purple bird????
Chickens have wings because they can, and do fly. They don't fly for long stretches, but they do fly up to perches at night, or if they're trying to get away from a predator.
A rooster does not have a penis and therefore there is no penetration of the female reproductive tract when mating. Instead the female inverts her cloaca (the common junction of the reproductive and digestive systems) which comes in contact with the male's inverted cloaca and the hen receives the sperm packet. The cloaca is then drawn back into the hen's body and the sperm are captured. They then begin the journey up the length of the reproductive system where they are stored for up to a week and fertilize each egg as it is formed every 24 to 36 hours. The rooster selects a hen from his flock and does a mating dance. This includes side stepping and dipping of wings to indicate he wishes her to get into position. The hen will signal this by crouching down and the rooster then grabs the feathers at the back of the neck for balance as he mounts her back. The rooster stands on the hens back (saddle) and they touch cloaca together transferring the sperm packet. This happens very quickly and the rooster will dismount and go on to find another willing hen. The hen will dust herself off, preen misplaced feathers and go about her daily hunt for food.
You should let rooster stay with the hen. The rooster will know what to do next.
Roosters are able to protect themselves by using their talons, beaks, and maybe their wings. And running or flying away, of course.
