Even though a sponge may be the same size as a book, the sponge has hundreds of holes in it. The book has far more material in the same amount of space that the sponge takes up. In other words, the book is far more dense than the sponge.

If A sponge and a brick that are the same size they have the same what?

no; they have the same volume but their mass is quite different; density is mass/volume and the sponge has much lower density

Why does it require much less force to accelerate a low mass object than it does to accelerate a high mass object the same amount?

a sponge will have more matter packed in the same space

When a dry sponge absorbs water which changes most its mass or its volume?

Weight. (Since fluid is squeezed out, the compressed sponge weighs less). However, if the question refers to compressing a dry sponge, then the only quantity that would change would be volume.

Would mass be more or less on the moon?

Mass is the same no matter where you are. Weight is less, but mass is the same.

Which has more mass a whole sponge or that same broken into tiny pieces?

Both .

Why is the acceleration due to gravity the same for a brick and a sponge?

Because the acceleration depends on the gravitational force on the object. But the gravitational force on the object depends on its mass ... More mass = more force. Objects with less mass have less force on them, and objects with more mass have more force on them, and the force on each object is exactly enough so that each object winds up falling with the same acceleration.

A sponge and a bar of soap occupy the same amount of space the soap is much more dense why?

The soap is more dense than the sponge because it has greater mass.

If you weigh less on the moon do you have less mass?

No, you have the same mass. The reason why you weigh less is because the moon has a less gravitational pull on you since it has less mass than the earth.

Does the earth and the moon have the same amount of mass?

No, they do not have the same mass. The moon has much less mass than Earth.

What would happen to your mass if you went to a planet with less gravity?

Your mass will stay the same. Mass is always the same no matter what.
