If a 1994 Trooper loses power going up hill and has a spark knock in the engine, the compression of the engine should be checked. It is possible that the vehicle is not running on all of its cylinders.
There are several reasons that made cause an automobile to lose power going up a hill. The most common reason is a lack of fuel, caused by a plugged fuel filter.
Any engine will lose RPM going up a hill, its called gravity and the engine has to overcome it. The heavier the vehicle the more RPM you lose. Thats also why transmissions have all the extra gears. Lower gear equals more pulling power and less speed, higher gear is less pulling power and more speed.
check the code it has your answer dummy
It loses power because going uphill is harder then going downhill therefore causing it to use more gas and then making it lose power bit by bit.
Generally when we are going up hill because of the gravity pull, more power is needed. So when traveling uphill more power is needed than downhill.
Because its trying to defy gravity.. lol The fact that its going up hill, kind of explains it.
check your fuel filter, injectors, catalydic converter, if it has a Carb. check it
usually the vehicle will start to lose power and this especially noticeable going up hill. you may hear a swoosh swoosh swooshing sound coming out of the tailpipe like it is partially stopped up instead of the regular purring that it should make.
OK There really is not enough information in your question to give you a good answer but I'll try to give you some ideas. First is the transmission downshifting going up the hill? Is there a rotten egg smell when you lose power? If there is you have a bad catalytic converter. How long since the vehicle was tuned up? Older trucks require it more often than newer trucks but nothing runs forever without proper maintenance. Lastly understand that all engines seem to lose power going uphill because they are working harder. Unless some action is taken such as downshifting you will continue to bleed off speed and therefore RPM and lose power. Also, check your oil level, and transmission fluid level.
You will still be able to steer the vehicle, but it's going to take lots of extra effort ... same is true of the brakes - more pressure is going to be required if you lose engine power.
Yes,definitely.
