The egg doesn't actually turn into rubber. The vinegar is an acid and the eggshell contains calcium carbonate which is a salt. The acidic vinegar breaks down the calcium carbonate of the shell (the calcium acetate is formed) and therefore dissolves it leaving only the thick membrane surrounding the hard boiled egg. It is only an egg without a shell.
osmosis
The conclusion for many concerning the bouncy egg experiment is that vinegar does cause the egg to bounce. After soaking a raw egg in its shell in vinegar for a few days, the shell dissolves leaving just the rubbery membrane that can be bounced.
vinegar, letting it sit for 2-3 days
When you put vinegar in a naked egg the shell will decrease its shell then turning into a smelly egg
yes. you need an egg, a cup, and enough vinegar to cover the egg in the glass. Put egg and vinegar in the glass for 2 days. when the 2 days are up remove egg from glass and wash off excess shell. THERE YOU HAVE IT...A BOUNCY EGG!
You can dissolve the calcium shell in vinegar (it takes a few days but is quite simple).
items: you will need... a jar with a lid, egg,and vinegar direction's: you put the egg in the jar and fill the jar with vinegar till the egg is covered. Then wait 3 days till u open you will see chunks of the shell coming off that is OK. Now 3 days have past and you open up the jar and you now have an egg with no shell! Does it feel squishy or slimy? cool right!
The chicken eggshell is 95-97% calcium carbonate with a stabilizing protein matrix. The shell can be dissolved by acids, including vinegar. If an egg is kept away from any acid attack, the shell can stay intact for years. If it is placed crushed and in contact with the ground, depending on soil acids, it may take weeks to months to disappear. If you are talking about an experiment at home soaking an egg in 4% acetic acid vinegar. . . it will take 24 hours to show good results and 36-40 hours for the entire shell to disappear.
it takes about ten days before it dissloves
Well when I did my science project on this when i first I had 3/4 up of vinegar in a plastic cup put the egg into the vinegar you could see the acids from the vinegar and egg building up. On the second day, there was a lot of bubblie white stuff in the top of the plasic cup i had.
Soak the egg in vinegar for about 2 days then carefully bounce it in a sink or another place where if it cracked it would be easy to clean. Or you might want to measure the height of how your going to bounce it. If it's higher then 6 '' it'll crack instintly.
I don't know bout dat but if you soal an egg in vinegar for 3 days the egg shell will turn soft
White vinegar is the best liquid for making an egg shell rubbery. The vinegar must be changed daily to prevent mold from growing on the egg shell.
