For democracy to work, everyone has to accept the terms of it. If one group decides that rather than accept the outcome of an election, they will just overtake by force, then democracy fails.

Democracy can fail in various ways. A democratic government can be overtyhrown by a military coup. A democratically elected leader can declare a national emergency and cancel any further elections, assuming dictatorial power. Democracy can degenerate into an orgy of corruption in which no one takes the principles of democracy seriously. Remember, the price of liberty is eternal vigilence.
