The answer can be as simple as the dog not getting the food it needs. It can also be a sign of a vitamin/hormone deficiency. If a dog is eating it's own feces it should be stopped and your Veterinarian should be notified of the behavior and testing done to see if the dog has any type of hormone/vitamin deficiency.
