It cant But it possibly could increase your risk though it could not increase risk. Actually the cancer risk is microscopically increased. Although the bread is heated in the presence of air, there is not enough oxygen to complete combustion. This results in the production of of a group of chemicals that are known to cause cancer. I knew of one chemist that removed the crust from fresh bread for that very reason. Look up 'destructive distillation of vegetable materials'. Then again, if burnt toast is a risk to you personally its probably best to stay upwind of any fumes when filling your car....then again, if you are that sensitive then you are likely already dead.
