If it comes on it means the temperature of your engine is too hot. Your engine is overheating.
As long as the engine is running you will have power assisted steering. With the engine not running you will not have power assist and it will be hard to turn but turn-able. If the engine is overheating it would be wise to pull over and park when safe to do so and shut off the engine before expensive damage is done to the engine.

If it is the engine that stops running then it could be something electrical like alternator not charging battery, mechanical malfuction like broken timming belt or water pump, no oil in engine, overheating, extremely worn spark plugs, or catastrophic engine damage.
It does not have one. It relies on the electronics on the the dashboard display which you may never look at. Please advise if I am wrong.
It is overheating or the oil preasure is low. It probably needs a new engine.
