Why does everybody almost on answers.com have their username as ID and then numbers?

Anyone that asks, edits, or answers something on the site who is not a registered user is automatically assigned a name like that.
This only shows up to other visitors and members of the site, to site Supervisors the user's IP address shows up instead.
