Fair Trade is supposed to pay fairer prices to individual growers, improving the economy in the (usually impoverished) regions where coffee is grown, passing that extra cost off to consumers. Tim Harford, an economist and a coffee lover, writes in his lovely book "The Undercover Economist", that fair trade coffee is often used as a means to allow coffee vendors to get customers to pay a higher price for their coffee. Branding coffee as "fair trade" allows them, while indeed paying a little more to the growers, to get a much higher price for a similar cup of coffee. Please see the related links for details.
It will cost a bit more so they will have to charge more then if they were buying normal products. This may make it harder to compete, which is the whole issue with Fair Trade.

why is fair trade good for LEDCs
fair trade helps poor people on farms who don't earn enough money to feed themselves and are over worked in harsh conditions-with the help of fair trade- when a fair trade product is sold the money is shared fairly giving the hard working poor people more money- the fare trade minimum cost is a standard they have for all fair trade products- it means that the workers must get enough money to be healthy e.g. food and water and a place to live
Often fair trade products are more expensive. also the other worker that are not working for trade get paid less
Fair Trade is beneficial to Third world farmers. Fairtrade ensures that even if coffee prices plummet, the fair trade farmer receives a fair deal. Fairtrade is rapidly increasing as industry. Check out BAFTS - British Association of Fairtraders or American equivalent for more information.
Fair trade products generally cost more than others. In order to commit to fair trade a person has to be prepared to spend more money on certain products. Unfortunately this makes it easy for people to justify buying non-fair-trade products all of the time.

Well, first of all, Starbucks sells coffee, pastries, bagels etc.. They have been trying to go green for a while now, with recycled paper cups. Recently, Starbucks decided to use Fair Trade Coffee.Fair Trade Coffee is coffee that is produced by farmers who don't use pesticides, they grow their coffee naturally. They also usually don't make that much money, don't sell any of their products to big super markets like: Associated, Gourmet Garage etc.. Then Fair Trade buys their products and sells them to companies just like Starbucks. But, the good thing about Fair Trade Coffee is that when Fair Trade buys the coffee from the farmers, they are paying them more per pound. Get it?If that helped at all, please give me some points. Thanks, D Lilah

why is fair trade good for LEDCs
because the extra money (that is added to the price when the product is made fair trade) goes to the people in poor countries like (Africa and Kenya) who grow and harvest some of the ingredients
