Why does food get wasted when there's so many people starving in the world?

Food gets wasted because people are not aware of what they have. We, who can afford to buy and eat food, take too much (mind is bigger than mouth) and do not even bother to think that a child in a third world country will never live to see even a fraction of what we throw away in the garbage. It is a sad fact but we can all help but sending money to countries in need so they can have a chance to keep themselves healthy!
