Why does ignition switch occasionally not release key in 2005 Malibu if the engine is off and the gear selector is in Park?

If the steering wheel is in a certain position, the ignition switch will not release the key. You can turn the steering wheel slightly while removing the key.I think it will work.

My 1999 Chevy Malibu does the same thing. Make sure the gear shift selector is actually clicked all the way into park (push or pull it until the button clicks). The key cannot be turned all the way to the off position (and removed) until the car is in park.
