NO IT DOES NOT.
The bark beetle (wood boring beetle) hurts our forest by killing the trees. It will dig into the wood, and it will lay it's eggs. If you see a tree with sap coming out of it that usually means it has been attacked by the beetle.
Well, technically anything you do to injure the tree will hurt it, but over the long haul of the trees life, the fact that one nail is hammered into its bark should not endanger the tree. It has more important things that will hurt it -- like lack of water, sunlight etc. I have cut down many large trees (I worked for Asplundh) and found nails way inside the tree that were hammered in there 50 or 60 years ago and the tree stayed healthy and strong.
No, it does not affect it though it may cause it to look bad
Dogs bark at cats because either they don`t like them, they want to play, or they want to hurt it! I know, who would hurt a poor little kitty?!!
