The temperature on top of mountains is lower than the temperature at sea level. The wind carries damp air over the land. When the air reaches the mountains, it rises because the mountains are in the way. As the air rises, it cools and cool air can carry less dampness than warm air. The higher anything goes in to the air the cooler it gets.

∙ 8y agobecause it is call orographic rainfall. the rain comes off the ocean and hits the mountain to pass the rain and clouds have to go over the mountain which makes it hard for the clouds to hold all the condensation. It then lets it fall. once on the opposite side to the mountain the clouds lower into the heat which makes it rain less because there is no condensation to collect and plus in the mountain tops there is a lot of moisture and contain which the clouds collect.
