How do you get dried up kerosene out of an antique lamp?

If you have an old fashioned wick type kerosene lamp, unscrew the top, pour in the kerosene- (half way is fine, it will burn for hours and hours), light the wick, and then put on the chimney. Adjust the wick down, so it stops smoking. The lamp should not smoke at all, if it does turn the wick down. Hope this helps. We light our house all the time with these!

Can you put gas in a kerosene plastic container?

Only if it's a coleman lantern designed to run on kerosene (many Canadian models were designed for kerosene). Most Coleman lanterns are designed to run on Coleman fuel or white gasoline, or both. If you try to run kerosene it won't work properly. It will just flame up and not glow brightly like it should. The kerosene Colemans require a preheat step to work properly, they have a preheat cup at the base of the generator that is filled with alcohol and burned before the lantern can be lit.

Oil flows upward in the wick of a lantern because of the liquid property called what?

Oil flows up through a wick through capillary action. This property causes the surface of a liquid to rise above the rest of it when in contact with a solid. Essentially, it pulls itself up to a certain height.

Can diesel or biodiesel be burned in a kerosene space heater?

ANSWER:Normal diesel fuel should not be burned in a kerosene heater, because there are many more contaminants in it, such as sulfur. A 100% solution of Biodiesel will not work because it requires a much higher initial temperature (300F) to burn cleanly. Blends of these fuels with kerosene can be burned, but there may be problems with the fuel soaking up the wick properly in the case of Biodiesel, which can lead to wick burning and sooting. There may also be problems lighting and burning properly if the blend contains too much of the Biodiesel, as its flash point is higher than kerosene. Diesel/Biodiesel fuel can also be run in many forced air heaters along with kerosene.

How do you replace the wick on a model 23dk corona kerosene heater?

Replacing the wick in ANY kerosene heater is explained, in detail, and usually with illustrations, in the instruction sheet provided with the replacement wick. I have a Corona 22-DK and purchased a new wick from Ace Hardware (American Wick Company) product I'm pretty sure. The instructions gave me all the help I needed. Important additional information: 1. Burn ONLY 1K kerosene - A.K.A. Clear or Low Sodium Kerosene, the red stuff will ruin your wick quickly. 2. Be sure to keep 10 square inches of window venting the room with the heater, very important! 3. It is recommended to run your heater dry every once in a while, allegedly to maintain wick health; I don't do this and have not had problems. 4. When disassembling your tank, use your digital camera (phone) to take pictures as you go, reassembly will be MUCH easier if you do. Some parts can go back in more than one way, especially the wick riser mechanism, you'll need to see the picture you took to get it back the same way so that it works right. I had to disassemble mine a second time to fix this part because, although I did take the picture, I failed to look at it during reassembly. I thought I knew how it went back in but when I had it all back together the wick would not rise up high enough to light it.

Can you use diesel in place of k1 kerosene?

Typically cars either burn gasoline or diesel fuel if the engines are equipped to burn that. Kerosene is normally not used in a diesel but it will function in an emergency just as well as diesel fuel except that the injection parts will not receive much lubrication. But it will get you home in a pinch. If your question is can you use #2 diesel in a wick type kerosene heater then no. Diesel fuel will smoke and stink compared to kerosene. If your question is can you use #2 diesel in a kerosene heater that is like a salamander, then maybe. I use #2 diesel in my salamander and it works fine and heats my garage up ok. Kerosene does burn cleaner though.

How-to relplace kerosene heater wicks?

I changed the wick on a corona sx2e kerosene heater it was not a simple task, since i did not have the manual; here is how to do it. 1 remove batteries. press the shut-off button to lower the wick. Open the grill and remove the burner chimney. Pull out the burner ignition lever knob and the wick control knob. loosen and take two screw off the lower part of the front plate, remove the front plate by pulling it's lower part toward you. 2. Take out the cartridge tank ( fuel tank ) remove 2 screws at the back of the heater, and lift the cabinet off the base plate. 3.Remove the wick guide ring by taking the screw out. 4. Unfasten the 3 nuts that hold the wick guide in place remove the wick guide by pulling it up. 5. Pull the wick raising the support bracket ( the wick lever ) 6. Remove the screw that holds the ignition bracket on to the wick guide tube, remove it from the tube. 7. Remove the 2 screws that hold the ignition to the frame, just set aside being it's attached by wires for the batteries. 8. Remove the 3 nuts that hold the tube to the frame ( the screw are welded to the from from within thay wont fall in to the tank ) pull up and remove the case from around the tube 9. There is an arm attached to the silver tube that holds the wick, the arm has what looks like a screw but it's not it can be pried away from the arm but ther is a pin that also has to be lifted inside the arm at the same time. Once this is removed the wick and wick holder can be lifted out. Press the wick fittings flat with a screwdriver and remove. 10. Put the new wick into the wick guide and line the 3 wick fittings up to the holes in the holder with the short part of the wick toward the igniter. 11. Then put it back together. I hope this helps someone Heidi
