If you are using a different key than is programmed to the vehicle, the engine will start and die and show you a little car symbol with a key inside of it. if that happens, then that key needs to be programmed to the vehicle using a computer. if it starts and dies without that little symbol, then you should have it checked by a competent shop.

Why wont your 1964 Volkswagen Beetle start after fixing leaking fuel tank hose?

How long did you crank the engine over? It sometimes takes a minute or two for the fuel pump to get the fuel back to the engine. If you have an inline filter check to make sure you are getting fuel flow.

What year is your air cooled Volkswagen engine 122 145118?

Are you sure that's an engine number? It doesn't look like one. What it looks like is a chassis serial number from a right-hand-drive 1972 non-Super Beetle. Engine serial numbers all have letters as their first characters, and the part numbers for entire Bug engines would start "111 101" which means: first three digits: car in which part was first used--111 is the standard Beetle fourth digit: subgroup--"1" is for the engine Fifth and sixth digits: functional area within subgroup--"01" is for the complete assembly ________________________________________________ I believe that the 122 indicates that it is a Volkswagen industrial engine. The 145118 part of the number would indicate that it was built somewhere between April and August of 1965.
