Why does my 2005 Chevy uplander DVD player only read disk error but won't play?

We had the same problem with ours, hopefully for the same reason. lol. Turns out the disk was too scratched for it to read it, or too damaged. It took us three different dvds before it worked, and yeah, they were a little damaged (not a lot, but enough I guess).
