Did you also completely drain the gas tank and carb? Or if it's fuel injected at least pour a couple pints of 90% isopropal alcohol in the tank and bleed the fuel rail a few times. Injectors cannot inject water. The alcohol will absorb the water and then it can pass thru the injectors. I'm assuming you removed the distributor and completed air dried it.
