Burning rubber is slang for spinning the tires. The rubber burns due to friction which causes heat which melts the rubber and causes it to smoke.

What could be the problem if your 1995 Toyota Camry stutters and smells like burning rubber?

My best guess would be either the brakes or the clutch. Many cars will smell of burnt rubber a bit after having their brakes changed. The new brakes need to adapt a bit to an old car and excessive material is burned off whilst you drive. This is normal and not harmfull except for the smell for a few hours. The clutch (unsure of proper English/US name. could be Transmission or something). As you drive, you step on a pedal every time you stop at a red light. This keep engine running whilst you hit the brake. Every time you stop and start, this creates wear and tear and in the end your car will be screaming for spare parts. Automatic transmission cars have sort of this problem too. A lot of stops and starts and they need spare parts. Some parts simply do not last for ever.

Why does your ford explorer smell like rubber burning?

My Ford cars always seem to have this problem. I took them to the factory dealer many times. They also seemed to overheat. I finally had the radiator completely replaced by a radiator shop and this seemed to clear up most of the burning smell and overheating. My conclusion from these experiences is that the Ford radiators are not quality. Consider replacing your radiator. It is a lot cheaper than the alternative of having your engine seize. Oh, this solution was not suggested by the shops, they just kept replacing my hoses and water pump.
