Why does my computer make a loud humming sound when I start to watch certain movies or visit certain websites?

It depends on the type of movies you are watching. If you are watching a DVD, the sound could be your DVD player. But if you mean movie files and/or streaming movies, then you may be hearing one or more fans inside your computer increasing in speed. In that case, here is what is happening:
1. Video cards often have 2 operating modes, the regular operating mode and a performance mode for graphics, games and movies. When it switches to performance mode, its fan will increase in speed. The performance mode clocks the GPU faster, draws more current, and generates more heat.
2. The motherboard and/or CPU may get hotter as well, so the system fans and/or CPU fan may increase in speed.
3. With the performance mode and all the fans kicking in, the current demands on the power supply will increase. So if the power supply fan is variable speed, it may increase speed as well.
