Dogs like this because they can not reach that part of their body on their own. It feels really good to them. It is like someone scratching the one spot on your back that you cannot reach.
Actually it is a vitamin deficiency from processed foods at extreme heat. The extreme heat is used to minimize bacteria so that you do not purchase food that makes your pet sick and thereby reduces the liability of the manufacturer. The problem is that the extreme heat will also decrease needed vitamins and nutrients for your pet. This creates Dry skin, sort of like a dry and itchy scalp in humans. The conditions are worse in pets with longer hair but can be present in both long and short hair pets. Because dogs can not just scratch their body any where, finding ways to scratch their hind quarters is the best they can do to stop the itching that is driving both you and your pet crazy. Use vitamin supplements so that both you and your pet can sleep better at night.
i have 2 dogs and they don't scratch there beds but they might have fleas or sometimes they get board they might pretend to dig
