you are probably out of gas, or if it(the tank) was recently filled, there may be an air bubble, that happened with mine. Also, there could be a dirt particle on the lense of the pilot blocking it, usually the propane or gas company can come out and check it or clean it if necessary. They told us to take the extensions from our vacuum cleaner and lightly clean the logs and the pilot, of course turn it off and take the logs apart first, you could be suprised at how nasty they can get in a short period of time.

If it is a gas log set, ( normally in an existing wood burning fireplace converted to gas, that turns on with a knob inside the fireplace.) Be very careful with a vacuum. Gas log sets produce soot were the flame contacts the logs. If you vacuum up this soot it will go right through the filter on your vacuum and dust everything in your house.
If your pilot will light but goes out as soon as you release the knob, you probably need a new thermocouple. If it is a simple gas log set most of them use the same type found in a water heater. There are a large variety of gas fireplace appliances all of which use different parts. You should never replace a part with anything other than what the manufacturer specifies.
Because of the heat from the fire heating up the mantel.
Replace the thermocouple. The skinny copper line that goes from the gas valve to the pilot and senses when it is lit.
Just a guess- but most have a sensor known as a thermocouple. This detects the heat of the flame of the pilot light, and keeps gas from flowing if the pilot light is not lit. check that your pilot light (a very small flame) is burning, and that the flame heats a small metal tube- about as big as a wooden match. If pilot is out, get it lit, and let burn for 5 minutes, and try lighting fireplace. If it still will not stay lit, the thermocouple may need replacement- they DO wear out. Check with your local gas appliance repair service. While they are fixing it, have them show you correct lighting process.
The part is a thermocouple. It screws out, look at the part probably a small wrench.
i have gas lp fryer want stay lit . is it orphus ?
Yes, efficient also. Keep animals and small children away from fireplace when lit for safety reasons.
Clogged chimney, closed flue, or wind blowing into the fireplace.
Here are some sentences. The huge fireplace held six giant logs.We lit a fire in the fireplace to warm up.
If you keep relighting the pilot and it keeps going out it is most likely a problem with the thermocouple. They are inexpensive and generally easy to replace but only if you are familiar with this type of work. If you plan on DIY be careful because you will be working with gas and electricity. Be sure to shut off both before replacing it. or.. call a technician to be sure it is indeed the thermocouple that needs replacing and they can safely replace it for you.
You need a new thermocouple. If you are not familiar with gas appliances, call a gas technician. It's a one hour (or less ) job.
with gas? hence gas furnace? theres a gas pipe that puts the gas into 3-4 tube things tht keep lit by the gas bruhhh
matches are unbelievably better than lighters, although lighters do stay lit longer they, they also produce gas , so whenever lit with a cigarrete you inhale the gas first unlike with a match.
