I have had this problem all my life (I'm 60). On one recent night when it was particularly bad, I remembered that I had eaten two fried eggs for supper. I tried not eating eggs the next day and by the following day the problem had completely disappeared.

It happens in the morning because your lungs is at rest and your throat is filled with phlegm and while your sleeping you cough up. coughing causes rupturing of cappilaries causing blood inyour phlegn it is basically hemoptysis.
